Arts in Hospital

Debbie Morris

Debbie Morris

Self-taught artist Debbie also has a career here in the NHS. Art has become a way to help her unwind at the end of a long busy day. She works predominately in pastels and has developed a real love for painting wildlife. After over 30 years of not painting, she has rekindled her childhood passion.

With this body of work Debbie brings the audience up close and personal to creatures many of us have never seen in their natural habitat. “I want the viewer to be lost in their very own wildlife safari or countryside walk just for that moment. I want to create a feeling that you could almost reach out and touch the soft fur.”

Painting wildlife also gives Debbie the opportunity to support conservation groups and raise the profile of some of these endangered animals. “The acts of mankind can sometimes impact heavily on the wellbeing of these creatures, and I am proud to have been able to help in some small way by raising funds through my art.”

“As NHS workers we can surely relate to and empathise with an overwhelming commitment to do our very best to protect and look after those in our care.  I hope that seeing my art makes you smile, brings you pleasure and gives you the strength you need to get through whatever it is you are going through right now – whether it is you who are vulnerable right now or whether you are the care giver and protector.  Whether you are looking at my art as a patient, a colleague or a visitor, thank you for stopping and staring a while.” Debbie K Morris
