Martin Parr

Dorset Close Up 1998

Martin Parr is a very successful Magnum photographer who lives in Bristol but has a fond connection with this area. Consequently for this commission he spent a summer photographing the different coastal villages and beaches, focussing on markets and fetes as well as capturing typical homes and allotments. His interest is in revealing the unique and special nature of ordinary places and people.

His style is instantly recognisable with strange viewpoints and unusual cropping of images, a distinctive use of focus and sharp colour and he has had a significant influence on a younger generation of photography students over the last few years.
