Temporary Exhibitions
Dorchester Camera Club
Dorchester Camera Club celebrates its 90th birthday next year, following its formation in 1936. In many ways its objectives have changed very little over this time, which is to offer a forum for like-minded enthusiasts to meet and take part in photographic related activities. The club has nearly 100 members and meetings are held each Monday at Brownsword Hall in Poundbury.
The nature of each meeting varies but includes guest speakers, internal competitions, club member talks and practical evenings. An up-to-date programme can be found at the Dorchester Camera Club website.
The club has four special interest groups covering Nature, Landscape, Street and Creative photography. These groups meet online monthly and participate in field trips and workshops. The club also has a ‘Distinctions Group’, for those members looking to progress through the certified qualification routes of the Royal Photographic Society, the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain or to enter external salons and competitions. As well as individual entry, the Club competes both nationally and internationally in photographic competitions and is recognised as one of the leading camera clubs in the country.
This 2025 exhibition at Dorset County Hospital continues a long trend of members exhibiting their work both locally and further afield. Reflecting the wide range of interests of club members, there is no one individual theme for this show as we wanted to represent the work of the club as a whole. Recognising the club location, however, the majority of photographs were taken in Dorset and there is a strong core of nature and landscape orientated images. Thought has also been given to pictures that would be attractive in a hospital environment, and we hope that visitors enjoy this small representation of the varied work of our members.
