Sandra Stalker
Sandra Stalker is an illustrator and printmaker living on the Dorset coast. Following her arts education in illustration at the Kent Institute for Art and Design she moved to Weymouth, where she learned to dive and her love of the marine and insect life that inhabits this part of the coastline grew. Her work focuses on collections and cataloging and often promotes the unseen or overlooked.
Ghost fishing
An exploration of the significant decline in marine life Sandra has noticed over the last 25 years of diving Chesil Cove.
This area has been increasingly netted with long gill nets indiscriminately trapping all marine life leading to the area becoming almost baren of marine creatures.
The prints are created using actual fishing industry flotsam, to monoprint with, the colours for the backgrounds are inspired by the flotsam. The screenprints onto the glass are all of species Sandra has noticed a significant decline in, while diving the cove.
